The Tooth of Time, P2K

First Tooth ascent in the new millenium!

Who couldn't pass up the chance to be among the first to climb the Tooth of Time in the new year/century/millenium? (And as part of Philmont's special "P2K" millenium celebration, the first 250 people to do so would even get a special patch for it, as seen above.) I was part of the first group, which formed up behind the CHQ Services building at 6:30 AM — five of us, with Dean Tooley leading the ascent.

Eventually, 180-or-so people made the climb; I apologize for not getting more pictures of folks (or more pictures, period; I ran out of film at the top, and the replacement canister I'd brought along turned out to be empty! Oops . . . )

Group photo, once we crossed over the ridge and started facing into the sunrise. (Our group of five grew to seven after two more folks caught up to us.)
Our intrepid leader, the legendary Dean Tooley.
Another group picture, not too far away from where the Stockade Trail meets the ridge (our group just keeps getting bigger, as more people catch up en route . . . )

The usual fantastic views along Tooth Ridge.

Another rest break, before the last scramble up to the top.

At the top — time to put all the jackets back on (and have a lunch break!) Being first to the top also meant that we could be first down, before the nasty clouds to the west came in and brought colder weather and rain/snow.
